Fabric Care Information

Boiled Wool:

Boiled Wool is a purely natural fabric. It has a natural lanolin protection which makes woollen products so easy to care for. To freshen up a woollen garment, leave it overnight in the fresh air or in the shower room. The air humidity will help make smells vanish and smooth out wrinkles - thanks to the high elasticity and "self-cleaning" effect of pure wool. If you decide to wash your boiled wool garments, use a small amount of mild detergent for either hand wash or cool machine wash cycle. After washing press out gently, lay flat to dry on a towel, then iron on a medium heat with steam from the wrong side of the fabric.To dry them, spread the boiled wool items out flat on a terry towel and dry flat.

Bamboo Jersey:

Bamboo jersey is a soft non-irritating fabric that feels comfortable against the skin. Bamboo jersey is lovely to wear, and especially good for people who have sensitive skin as it is naturally hypoallergenic. The fabric keeps you cool, as it is breathable and thermal regulating. It drapes well . It is perfect for making tops, t-shirts, simple summer skirts, tunics and dresses or scarves. Bamboo jersey is a natural fibre and is biodegradable Wash at 30˚ on a gentle cycle and wash the fabric before use, as it does shrink. Low to medium iron. Do not tumble dry.

Viscose Jersey:

Viscose jersey fabric is soft, smooth and drapes well. It is comfortable to wear and can be dyed and printed easily. It is perfect for making dresses, tops, t-shirts, skirts and any stretchy garments. Viscose jersey is biodegradable and it is made using wood pulp. Wash at 30˚ on a gentle cycle and wash the fabric before use, as it is likely to shrink. Medium iron with care. Dry flat and with care, do not wring or twist as the fabric is not as strong when it is wet. Dry naturally, do not tumble dry.

Linen and Biolinen:

Linen is a durable and versatile fabric. It retains body heat in cool weather and in warm weather it helps to keep the body cool. It is stronger than cotton and softens over time but it does not weaken. It is perfect for making all kinds of dressmaking projects, such as dresses, skirts, shirts and trousers. It also works well as a soft furnishing fabric. Linen is woven from stem of the flax plant, is considered the most eco friendly textile fibre to produce, and is biodegradable. Wash at 40˚ using non-bio liquid and wash the fabric before use, as it is likely to shrink. Dry naturally and iron while slightly damp using the appropriate setting for linen on your iron. Use a steam iron if possible.. Do not tumble dry as it reduces the life of the fabric.

Cotton Lawn and Cotton Poplin:

Cotton lawn is a lightweight breathable fabric. It is ideal for dressmaking, especially for summer dresses, blouses, nightwear and children's clothes. It is made from 100% cotton. Cotton poplin is more durable than cotton lawn and a light to medium weight cotton. Cotton poplin is perfect for making dresses, tops, tunics, shirts and jackets. Wash at 40˚ using non-bio liquid and wash the fabric before use, as it is likely to shrink. Iron using the appropriate setting for cotton on your iron. Dry naturally. or tumble dry on a low setting.
